What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Feedback from Rough cut

  • Lip syncing wasn't in sync for all the scenes.
  • Our artists head was cut off in some of the scenes, which didn't look professional.
  • There wasn't continuous editing because her hair was curly in some scenes and straight in others with meant that there wasn't a clear structure to our video.
  • Positives: They liked the granary scene with the lights, conventional close up shots of new artists.
  • Cutaways were good, also the 360 angle.

Changes that were made after receiving feedback

The changes we made was the locations, we decided that it was better not to add the the cable carts scenes firstly because the framing wasn't good and there were many distractions for a viewer such as the bright red labels which would have been the focus it we used it. After taking the cable carts scenes out we went out to film again in Bow tunnel. What we did wrong was we filmed only some verses and then when it came to editing we realised the chorus had two verses and we didn't have the footage to add that to our music video which meant that we had to go out and film again. We filmed in a tunnel in Kings Cross (our base tracks) were she was taking off parts of her clothes so express her liberating herself. We also changed another location which was Riverside, this is because yet again we didn't film the whole song only the part of verses we thought we need so we had to go film this again we opted for a closer location which was Kings Cross Roof top Terrace.

More changes...

Another change we made was to re- shoot the bedroom scene this was because the scenes were too static and also to follow Vernallis theory of looking into the camera and connecting to the audience we believed we didn't have enough close up shots of them. So we went and did a re shoot. What went well was that now it the bedroom wasn't static but the framing wasn't done well as the sides of the bed were showing in one scene which may distract the audience the door handle was also in the shot and bag, what we did to try overcome this was crop and stretch the screen. Although we couldn't completely get rid of the door handle in the bedroom scene because then it would look pixelated.

Bedroom Scene

The framing in this scene was bad as it drawed attention to the door handle and the main focus is meant to be on our artist.

This scene at on the rough cut was very static so what we did was more cuts to make it look less static and we did a re shoot so we cut to close ups of her face

We went a re shot more scenes in the bedroom, we choose to shoot more angles so it would be less static also, followed Vernallis theory of looking into the camera and building a connection to the audience.

We removed this scene from our final video as there were bright red stickers which distract the audience from the artist.

What I learnt...

What I learned from receiving feedback from our audience and our teachers was that the main conventional in the music video is to have a structure and they we do this is through continuity editing. This is one of main reason why we had to re film many times, we didn't have clear structure on what scenes come when and for our rough cut we kept cutting back to the all the scenes, which didn't give our video structure. Also feedback was important as class members pointed out that the cutaways didn't look good if they didn't it for every scene so again it lacked continuity so we decided to take it out. From the feedback from the audience in cinema we found that audience may not have understand our concept of her liberating herself quite well as it is a deep concept to actually fully understand. So the narrative was an issue. Although some feedback I received from cinema screening was the fact that the song was about a break up was noticeable because of the scene of the texts made it obvious she was dealing with the break up. Some things I would change would be planning of our filming, If we planned better we wouldn't have to do last minute and do it all filming and editing in a rush and the quality of some of the scenes would have been much better such as the scene in the tunnel the brightness of the camera was very dark because the day time lighting was switched on but we had no choice due to timing but to use it and because we need more close up shots as our artists was new artist.

Ancillary Product

The feedback that I got from my ancillary products was that was a good use of synergy and that you could clearly tell that the products were linked due to the black and white and grey theme. It was simple yet effective. They also like the shadow effect on my advertisement which made it less dull. Also pointed out that it was clear of who the artist was the when album was out.
