The history

  • Silverstripe.org didn't exist!
  • Silverstripe.com was a monolithic representation

The first Silverstripe.org

circa 2009

Current Iteration

circa 18 June 2014

2012: Talk of a makeover

  • SS canvasses the community looking for feedback
  • Many participated in a user testing experiment to reveal deficiencies

Findings

  • Content was rough around the edges: terse, ambiguous labelling
  • Users struggled to find ways to connect with others
  • Excessive reliance on site search
  • Dated design elements

CHEERS BRO THX FOR THE FEEDBACK LET'S MAKE A NEW SITE SWEET AS!!!!!

Two years Later...

No substantial progress.

What happened?

"There's no such thing as  too busy to do something.
You just didn't prioritise it."

- Sam Minnée

But here we are...

circa 2014
  • SilverStripe makes a concerted effort to redo silverstripe.org
  • A dedicated team is formed
  • Lots of talk about strategy, marketing, and the bigger picture for the SilverStripe core product offering
  • Updates will be highly iterative, with incremental improvements coming rapidly after initial release

Phase One

  • Primarily a new coat of paint. Features will stay largely unchanged
  • Responsive design
  • Adaptive content
  • Creating a foundation for much more effective user engagement
