Evaluation of rough cut
The success of the title sequence
The order of the shots do make sense, as we only filmed that scene that was able to be uploaded, however, some essential shots were missing. For example, the shots of the alarm clock which symbolisd a new day but same time. Also how the character wakes up at a specific time and has a schedule. Due to us missing that out, it doesnt add the mystery and suspense which is a common convention in thriller/mystery. In addition, the shots could havebeen more fluent if there were more in between shots, for example shots of the character walking from the bed to the computer desk.
The order was going to how we planned it, from what we had so far.
The quality of the camera work
The quality of the camera work was decent, could have been better. For instance, the camera was a bit shaky in some shots as the tripod wasn't used, only the figrid, and my hands weren't that steady throughout the shots. Also, in some shits the camera wasn't quite focused, that needs to be improved in the final cut.
Other than that, the camera quality was fine.
The variety of shot types used
Shot types such as:
Point of view- used when the character is picking up the pills and spilling it on the table.
High angle- used when the characters feet is filmed whilst she walks to the bin.
Mid shot- used when the character is waking up
Close up- used when the character is pouring the pills into her hand.
The use of lighting
Lighting was a big issue for our group as we never had good natural lighting when we needed it, or dim light but not too dark. For example, in our shot the lighting wasn't the best, it was quite dim, which was good for the first shot were by the character is waking up. However, throughout the whole shots after, there wasn't natural lighting which was wanted. We had to use artificial lighting to brighten up the shots, which didn't make the shots feel as realistic and good quality. Also, there was a scene that couldn't be put into the title sequence as it was way too dark, this was due to the weather and it getting dark very quick. Therefore recording at 4:30 resulted in really dark shots which couldn't be used.
The performance of characters
There were only 2 main characters, however only one was shown in the title sequence as not all the shots could have been added. The character was was acting was good at staying in character, things like giggling or not being serious wasn't involved. However, the actress was a bit sketchy with her actions that she was performing, which is understandable as she is quite shy.
The use of Mise en scene
Location- the locations we planned to use were used, for example a house, outside of a primary school (not in 1st rough cut).
Props- the props that were planned to be used, is still going to be used, however were not involved in our title sequence due to lack of communication in our group, therefore the most essential props couldn't be filmed. Therefore the only prop we used was pills which wasn't planned to be used but we changed it to that instead of a hospital wristband which is hard to purchase.
Costumes- the costumes worn was a nightgown worn by the woman, and the child in school uniform (not in title sequence but filmed) which was planned.
