David Buckingham Theory

David said that "Genre is not ... simply 'given' by the culture: rather, it is in a constant state of negotiation and change."

He believes that genres change over time and are molded constantly by society. Also that children and young people have identities that do not exist at all or are constantly changing.

He also believed that media reveals the bad side of the world leading to parents keeping their children indoors to hide them from this reality .

Children consequently spend to much time around various types of media such as TV's and computers which would lead them to learning to much about the world and are going through constant change due to the amount views, opinions and cultures that they observe.

As our song is dubstep this is a offspin of dance music here is an example of  how dance music has changed over time

Rhythm is a dancer (Snap!) - 1992

compared with

F For You (Disclosure) - 2013

These two artists share both similarities and differences in the video of how the techno and dance genre has changed over time.

One of the aspects which has not changed is the use of editing in the video from using a symmetrical like feature.

Snap!

Disclosure

In the videos they also use a range of vibrant colours or virbrant lighting to relate to clubbing, dancing which is seen to be positive. In both of the videos they are usually disaplyed in a dark or black setting in order to stand out.  Animation is also frequently used in the video with shapes such as circles which are both used.

However dance does differ from dubstep as in both of these video the artists are featrued as dance music is more mainstream and therefore would focus more on the artist reputation aswell as the music. As dubstep is a new genre it has not changed since it has been it out as it has stuck to its dark themes and not including the artist in the work but also including animation similar to dance.

Close ups of the artists featured in both of the videos

The use of props in the video have not changed as they both include musical instruments/ devices.

I feel that the dance genre has not massively changed as the only differences in the video is the quality which has improved over the years in order to meet the standards of the audience as they would nowadays expect the video be in high quality.
