Evaluation Question 2-How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Synergy 

Synergy is different media products that work together to achieve an objective that cannot be done independently. In our case as we are introducing a new artist we would not be able to sell the artist with just the music video. We had a digipak and an advertisement in order to sell the music video and the artist.

Synergy is important when trying to promote a new artist as it will help them become more well known. It is also important that there are visual links which are associated with the artist in order for the audience to connect the two together.

Synergy in My Music Video

One way we have shown a link between the ancillary products and the music video is through the colour theme. The costume design in the music video consists of black and white and the DigiPak and Advert use the colours black and white. Another way we have shown this is also at the beginning of the video where the artist is introduced the font used is also the same font on the DigiPak and advert.

Comparing My Synergy with Real Synergy

From looking at Adele's album cover, she has a close up image of herself which we have followed the same convention whereas our artist is looking straight ahead as she is a new artist being introduced

Another cover we looked at was Emeli Sande we used the convention of having two different fonts, one for the artist title and one for the album cover. 

We also the followed the convention found in real synergy such as having the barcode,serial number down the spine of the digipak, the record label and information of the artist such as the website address.

Emeli Sande's single 'Clown' which is from the album shows a visual link through colour as her video is in black and white which goes with her album cover, this show a link between the music video and album

Advertisment

In our advert we included the album cover to show what we were selling to the audience we used the same colours used in the digipak as well as the same font showing a visual link between the two products. We included the record label logo as well as the different formats the album was available on to inform the audience. These are conventions found in real synergy. rom looking at Ella Henderson's advert  she had the same font with is seen in her album cover which shows a link between the two, and what formats the album is available on and the date of when the album is out.

How successful was my main and ancillary 

From looking at my ancillary and digipak I think it was a success as i have a visual link which join all three products together especially with the font used for the artist name is shown in all three which shows a link. The colour theme is another factor as i have used the colours black,white and grey throughout, not only for costume design but the colours in the ancillary The artist image which included the hairstyle is another factor used as she has big hair which joins them together.
