Inspiration & Genre Research

The inspiration for my magazine was from my genre research for indie rock. As my target audience likes things which are not mainstream I chose 'wilderness' which reflects the idea that the music featured is not

wil·der·ness

an area essentially undisturbed by human activity together with its naturally developed life community

Final idea & reasons

The font I originally chose was 'Wilderness' in the Montserrat font. I chose this front because it was: easy to read, simple and easy to identify. Could change*

Design Choices

  • Modern classic theme
  • Few cover lines
  • Basic layout featuring fashion, live music and interviews.
  • 'Song editions' to help promote artists.
  • Reflects fashion campaigns such as Vans and Stussy which helps to link fashion/lifestyle with music.

How Wilderness is different:

  • Combination of fashion, lifestyle and music
  • Wilderness focuses on artist information
    and smaller bands
  • Cover lines feature song titles to promote
    artists - 'song club'
  • There is information about live music
    as well as digital music

Main article ideas

  • Interviews suggested emphasis on individual songs
  • 'Song club' with a free download
  • 'Free The Animal' by Sia
  • Double page spread with artist interviews with photo shoot

Possible photo shoot ideas

  • Final design is the middle pink note of someone with a tiger head

  • Survey for decision

  • Decided because it reflects
    'wilderness'
