35mm slide Imaging

— state of the art technology!

Slides.com uses the same technology for 35mm slide imaging that Hollywood uses to image IMAX motion pictures — MGI Solitaire 16k film recorders.

This technology makes slides from digital photographs as well as PowerPoint® files. Powerpoint® files automatically image at maximum resolution. As a rule of thumb, digital photographs with more megapixels produce better slides. So, it is better not to reduce the pixel dimensions of your digital photographs. You can send in tif, jpg, bmp, gif, psd or PowerPoint files. Jpeg compression reduced the time needed to send your files without reducing the quality of the resulting slides. Digital photographs can be imaged in landscape or portrait orientation. Crop them any way you like. Any leftover film area is filled in with black.

Our film recorder will scale your file up to 8K resolution, 8192 X 5460 pixels (45 megapixels) and image it with a spot size that is smaller than the film grain. This ensures the maximum sharpness possible from the combination of your image and the film itself.

Since 4K, 4096 X 2730 pixels, is the maximum resolution that the film grain will support, there is no need to send in files larger than this size. Imaging at 8K is, however, necessary to obtain a true 4K image from a 4K file, which is why we image 35mm slides at 8K.
