My Filming, Performing

and Editing Diary

In this slides presentation I will be talking about the progress I have made through recent weeks personally. I will be focusing on the three main areas which are performing as the actor 'Brix', my share of editing (the part of editing which I participated in and lastly shooting; I will be talking about the scenes in which I shot. I will also be answering questions such as did anything not go according to plan? during the process what new have you learned during the process? How hard did you find it? and lastly how could I improve?

Performance

In relation to performing as my character 'Brix' I had to perform a series of base tracks in different location. Brix used various locations such as Yukils house and West Silvertown. As a performer I had to generate a lot of movement and energy and emotion in order relate to the song.

Performance

Overall the 'Brix' performance was hard work as I had to do over 20 base tracks in total, However it was enjoyable to do. Performing went to plan as a whole. 'Brix' had no issues with performing and we didn't have to go and reshoot due to our performances. Over the whole performance was quite easy for all 'Brix' and Bobby due to the fact we both take drama as an A2 subject. This gave us the confidence and ability to perform effectively

Shooting

As well as performing I took part in the camera work. I done a bit of shooting in the grave yard where 'Bobby done his first verse. This required a lot of camera angles and shot types which we followed from the story board.

At the grave yard scene shooting was fairly easy. The task was based around looking at the story board  and performing them accordingly

Shooting

In regards to shooting we had a few problems over the few days due to lighting.

Our shots which we done at Yuksil's house were too dark and grainy. This led us to reshoot the scene with dedo lights.

Overall it was worth the time, our shots came out much clearer and made the effect clearer of low key lighting

These pictures are a comparison of how much the dedo lights helped us to create the low key lighting which we tried to potray

Editing

The editing process has only been recently started as we had to finish up reshooting. As a group we started editing one by one putting the track in final cut pro and syncing our base tracks with our chosen song. I played a part in this by putting the base tracks for 'Bobbys' verse, the cutting up the shots to suit the song.

Lastly, I have developed the the use of my slow motion skills by changing the settings on the camera to '25fps' and then speeding it up on the editing software final cut pro. This made the slow motion look more smooth rather than robotic

Editing

As a group we have not completed the editing process however editing  on a whole has been a good experience so far. I have learned how to sync the song and lyrics together using markers.

Personally what I could do to improve my editing skill is to develop on my cutting skills to suit the mood of the song. I believe that my cuts are to sharp and obvious, which contrasts with the emotion of the song of being smooth and fine.
