What is a digipak?

A digipak is a type of packaging for CDs or DVDs, which typically made out of cardboard with an internal plastic holder for a disc.

A digipak could contain any or all of the following:


  • Name of the artist or band
  • Name of the album
  • Track listing
  • Production information (e.g. copyright info, company details)
  • A booklet
  • 'Thank yous' 

Importance and function of digipaks

  • Helps to promote the artist or band
  • Artists/bands can sell digipaks at a higher price, thus increasing profit
  • Can be useful in establishing artist's genre
  • Conveys a visual representation of artist 
  • Can generate interest and promotes awareness
