How did NUMAX began?

 

- Every venue of the town center closed (2014).

- Different occupations linked by cinema-books-design-filmmaking.

- Living and working in cities elsewhere, "coming back home".

- A new place on our own, as a cultural and local meeting reference point.

- First Europa Cinemas film theater in Galicia ever since the creation of the network in 1992.

- First CICAE film theater in Galicia ever.
How we raised the money to build this project?

- Cooperative credit (Coop57) - 300.000€ (7 years)

- Won a FEDER European funding calling in 2014 - 81.000€

- Own contributions (8.000€ each working partner + 24.000€ collaborator partner)
People involved:

- August 2013 / January 2014 (6 people)
First discussions around the project

- February - May 2014 (3 people)
Choosing and renting the building, architects, creating the legal structure of the society, making the business plan and getting the first economical support (around 60.000€ balled)

- June - September 2014 (4 people)
Completing the economical support, public fundrising (proxecto.numax.org)

- October 2014 - March 2015 (5 people)
Building works, beginning of economical activity, preparing the opening
How much time did it take from the idea to the opening day?

- From late August 2013 until March 18th 2015:
18 months

14 people working, where 11 are working partners of the cooperative (12.5 full wages)

- Film Exhibition [CINEMA NUMAX]

- Bookshop (Literature + special selection on music, film books, dvd and bluray) [LIBRARÍA NUMAX]

- Video&Film posproduction (editing, colour grading, subtitling, DCP master, homevideo, movie trailers, cinema advertisings,...)[NUMAX LABORATORIO]

- Graphic design (including communication & web programming, books layout, advertising campaigns,...)

- 100% original version screenings (the only one in the region, 1 of 22 in Spain -only 7 apart from Madrid/Barcelona, the only with single screen in a <100K city)

- 4K DCI (1 out of three in the region - Galicia)

- Online booking facilities with numbered seats (own platform)

- Special communication items (film-sheets, monthly printed program, selfproduced special program videos and graphism, weekly newsletter)

- 700 Membership cards (4€ each ticket + 5% bookshop discount and special promos)

NUMAX Loyalty schemes (always 4€ and 5% Bookshop discount)

- Basic fidelity card: 35€ / year (first ticket for free, one free ticket every ten tickets)

 

- Basic fidelity card (under 25 or over 65): 20€ / year

 

- Collaborate fidelity card: 110€ / year (+10 ticket card and free entrance to screenings with guests)

From Cines Duplex to DUPLEX Cinema (www.duplexcinema.com)

 

- Only cinema left in town (Ferrol - 65K people and going down). Two screens with 90% dubbed and 10% OV. Att.: 12K/year

- Built under a family business model in 1996

- Closed on June 30th 2019

- Reopened with Nocturama SL in October 10th 2019

- Bank credit: 50K€ (arquitects, heating, painting, cleaning, arranging and replacing seats, new graphic identity, new web, new ticket selling platform, new "ticket office" furniture, ...)

- 90% OV and 10% dubbed (one weekday dubbed screenings); 1.5 wages, 2 workers; expected attendance: 20K-30K/year
