Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The combination of my main product and the ancillary texts is very effective because I have combined my synergetic pieces into each ancillary text and my music video. My synergetic pieces were S.Dot's glasses, his rings and a black and white colour scheme.

How did you plan to use synergy in your production pieces?

We planned to incorporate the glasses, rings and colour scheme into the website by having various images of S.Dot on the website gallery that would show close ups of his face and hands, the digipak images would highlight his glasses and rings and the music video would consist of many close ups on these features. We planned to have a close up of S.Dot on the front of the digipak with his hands clasped together in a praying gesture. I thought that this position would be useful because it would show the sides of his glasses, and the rings would clearly be on display.

In the music video there are performance shots of the two artists in black and white. This black and white colour scheme is also followed through to the website and the digipak. The colour scheme is one of my most important synergetic devices because it makes a big impact on how the target audience can distinguish S.Dot from other artists.

I think my main ancillary texts are successful because they conventional of media texts from my chosen genre and they are all linked in with one another through the incorporation of my synergetic devices.

I think my target audience would be attracted to my texts because they are consistent and conventional and my texts are similar to well-known UK Rap artists media texts.

In addition, my track list consists of terms that my target audience of teenagers and young adults most likely use themselves. For instance. 'Bae' is a modern slang term that is consistently used amongst young people on social media. The use of urban language also contributes to the audience feeling as though they can aspire to be like S.Dot because he is already similar to them in terms of language and speech - he uses the same words as they do.
