I lOVED YOU

Following Andrew Goodwin's theory, this music video uses amplification because it introduces new meanings to the lyrics which the audience is able to understand from watching the video.

The song talks about someone falling otu of love with a significant other, so the audience automatically assumes that the woman singing is talking about a male. From the video we learn that the meaning of the lyrics is different, because the two girls were once friends (who loved each other as best friends would) and we see the different stages of their friendship and how it has slowly deteriorated. Scenes where they were committing acts of violence together, to only one of them partaking in those activities in the end. It follows an emotional journey where one friend is slowly watching her other friend becoming successful and famous.

Relation between song and video:

Location/setting

The original video is set in Mexico and the settings are base in a large house (a beauty pageant setting), in urban areas of Mexico, pool hall, on rooftops, mostly outside.

The differences

Our video will differ in multiple ways:

  • Firstly our our video wont have a narrative, therefore its a disjuncture video. There arent any hidden meanings to the lyrics, instead the video will have no relation to the song itself. We chose this because of the genre being deep house is very different and doesn't follow a certain structure of music videos; allows you to be more creative and imaginitive.
  • In the original video, the colours represented are very muted and dull during the day, but more contrasted during the night. We intend to have alot of bright colours throughout our music video.

Our locations:

We also chose urban areas, however these are set in London which relates better to the target audience. Majority of deep house audiences are based in England.

We chose a gallery to shoot in because there are many interesting exhibitions which everyone can relate to, the specific one we chose was featuring Ann Veronica's work with the experiment of smoke and colours. Our idea is to incorporate alot of bright colours; specifically the colour red.
