Evaluation Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Synergy:

When we researched synergy, it became clear that it was something common in the music video and album cover- so, it was sort of like the brand image of the artist. When I researched digipaks and music videos, there was a link between them both for example, in Daft Punk's music video 'Get Lucky' The synergy was the robot- helmet- this was also the album cover and was also  seen in the music video.  When it came to our music video, I wanted to have a good quantity of synergy to make it more recognisable to the viewers about the artists brand image. I also incorporated the synergy in my digipak.

We chose 'Let go for tonight' for a reason. We didn't want our music to be an average music video, so we wanted ours to look energetic and youthful- to attract our target audience. There are many links from our video to my digipak:

We had silhouettes in our music video,

and it's something I wanted to incorporate in my own digipak. Although it wasn't a black silhouette- it was a grey one, as grey pink and white were my main colour scheme.

Although we filmed in a white room,

I decided to fill the background to a light pink tone. We used red/pink smoke bombs in our music video, and it was seen throughout the video- so I decided to add that colour tone as my background for digipak and advert, This also attracts our target audience.

In our music video we had black and white

scenes in parts of the video. We did this to show memories that the artist had with her friends. I used the black and white in the name of our artist. So we have colour and also black and white.

Our artist wore the same costume

in the music video as well as in the album and advert. For the album cover I wanted to show a mid shot of her looking towards the camera, and another one of her in  a hat inside the cover as well as on the advert.

Our synergy was the metallic tattoos

this was seen throughout the music video, and I wanted to address that in my digipak. I used a picture of the artist where she covers half her face with her hand- this is when we can see the tattoos. I also used the tattoos as a border for the back of my album.

How can your audience recognise them as linked products?

Our target audience will be able to recognise the link between our music video and my digipak & advert. This is mainly because are artist is seen throughout the whole video, so the audience will be able to recognise her. As well as that, the synergy is seen throughout the music video- and I've incorporated that in my album cover as well.

How successful do you think your main ancillary texts are?

I feel like my digipak and advert are successful because they are fun, colourful, and youthful. Which is something seen in our music video. Our music video contains colour and vividness, as well as having fun and the youthful look. I feel like what i've created allows to show the youthfulness.

Do you think your target audience would be attracted to them?

We got very good feedback from our music video, they mostly liked the smoke bombs and the locations we filmed in. We was very happy with the end result. We felt very satisfied as mostly everyone was able to connect with the music video, as it portrayed friends having fun. I feel like my digipak and advert will attract my target audience. Because it's a pop music video, I wanted to show the fun side of it- and I think that's communicated really well in my album and advert. Our target audience is from young teenagers to 25- I feel like the way my advert and album are composed will help attract my target audience. Because it's mostly females, by having pink, grey and white is an advantage as that's what females tend to go for. It's simple, fun, and youthful and I feel that people would buy it, and also watch the music video.
