Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Since the premlinary I have learnt that having a schedule for filming is very useful. Its was often that during the prelimary filming that one of our actors or film crew wouldnt show up and everyones time would be wasted. When everyone commits to a work schedule this problem never happened with our filming and we were able to maximise the time shooting scenes.

We also learned more ways to edit footage as prior to filming I only knew how to cut clips and rearrange their order. Now I know how tranistions work and different visual effects such as filters, fades, ken burns and titling works.

Since the preliminary task I have also learned how to compose music on garageband. I learnt about combining synthetic instrustments in a virtual studio. Prior to this in our preliminary task we just took music from other artists off youtube, converted them to mp3 and put them on our video.

Also regarding audio we previously used a phone app called voice memos which was of pretty low quality. We also never changed the audio and just worked with the takes we got on the day. However now we learnt about redubbing audio using a high quality audio recording application called audacity. We also learnt about foley which we were able to use to add in footsteps and ambient noises to the scenes in our film to fill the silence between dialogue and to make up for the poor microphone range on our camera. In the prelimary we left the original background noise in

In regards to filiming we have also been able to build our knowledge of composition and different shots. In our preliminary we used a static mid shot of two people talking and didnt really experiment much with different framing.

However in this task we were able to use many different shot types we had researched like the slow pan establishing shot at the start of the film and the tight framing we used to conceal the face of our main character.

We also learnt the importance of establishing shots to set up the location to give context to the action happening. In our preliminary we didnt have any establishing shot and just had our character walk into frame and begin his dialogue. In the main task we made sure to have plenty of establishing shots to make sure the viewer knows what location the action/dialogue is taking place in.

In addition to filming we also learnt how important it is to pick the right time for filming and to position equipment so it is behind the sun. In our prelimnary task we made the mistake of having the camera directly in front of a window which caught a lot of glare and had to edited out in final cut using filters.

Overall approaching the main task we were much more prepared than the prelimnary task. We were able to interview people about what would they like to see in our film and we were able to pick up some helpful feedback and suggestions on the storyboard we had made. The excessive planning that went into this task lead to us overall having more useful footage than we got for the preliminary so we didnt have to stretch titles out or make it too short.

We were able to take the knowledge we had gained from our the mistakes made from the prelimary and apply our learnings so that are main task became more easy and overall a better product.
