costumes and location for music videos

Costumes

the costumes in a video depend on the type of genre that the music is for example in rap of hip-hop genres the artists would be expected to wear big heavy gold chains with baggy trousers and a plain t-shirt.

whilst the women that appear in their videos wear near to nothing

costumes

in other genres in music such as pop especially with boy bands such as One Direction the costumes are important to their image as their target audience tend to be 13-16 year old girls so it is important that they attract them and dress in a way that they would like their boyfriends to dress like. ie n very trendy outfits that are 'in' right now.

five seconds of summer (or 5sos) are also a boy band with good looking members and they also dress in order to appease the girls that are their fans however they are more recent than 1D

Location

just like with costumes the location for a video very much depends on what type of genre the artist fits in to for example typically in pop songs they are normally in quite a rural areal that has a lot of space so that they can run around and have fun and be 'young' and care free. this appeals to One Directions fans as their fan base is typically 13-16 y/o and they probably would do the things seen in the video themselves.

'what makes you beautiful'

Location

with hip-hop or rap videos the locations tend to be more luxurious exotic and expensive looking. this is important as it signifies their wealth which is a recurring factor in hip-hop and rap as they artists also wear gold chains to prove their wealth. this is also because their lyrics tend to talk about the 'finer things in life' so they have to translate that into their videos because if they didn't it would look very strange.
