The David Rumsey Map Collection Chrome Browser Plug-in

A tab extension for viewing the current date and time with a random map from the David Rumsey Map Collection every time you open a new tab. Explore new this amazing collection of maps by just opening up your browser.

Command-t for a new Tab in Chrome

The David Rumsey Map Collection Chrome Plug-in was created by Jack Reed, Developer, Stanford University Library's Digital Libraries Systems and Services.

Spotlight

exhibits.stanford.edu

Spotlight is open source software that enables librarians, curators, and other content experts to easily build feature-rich websites that showcase collections and objects from a digital repository, uploaded items, or a combination of the two.

Searchworks.stanford.edu

Stanford University Libraries' official online search tool for books, media, journals, databases, government documents and more. SearchWorks now supports searches in Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

DavidRumsey.com Georeferencer

Georeferencer is a new application added to our online library. It allows you to overlay historic maps on modern maps or other historic maps. The overlaid maps reveal changes over time and enable map analysis and discovery. You can choose your own maps to georeference by Searching LUNA or help us georeference the entire online map library using our Random Map link to open maps in our First Pilot Project.

Earthworks.stanford.edu

EarthWorks is a discovery tool for geospatial (a.k.a. GIS) data. It allows users to search and browse the GIS collections owned by Stanford University Libraries, as well as data collections from many other institutions.

ArcMap

ArcMap is the main component of Esri's ArcGIS suite of geospatial processing desktop programs, and is used primarily to view, edit, create, and analyze geospatial data. ArcMap allows the user to explore data within a data set, symbolize features accordingly, and create maps.

ArcMap allows you to:

  • Georeference Map mages

  • Create 'containers' (databases) with domains, default values, templates, etc... for 'vectorizing' features from map images

  • Publish it all to ArcGIS online for multi-user editing

stanford.arcgis.com

ArcGIS Online is an online, collaborative web GIS that allows you to use, create, and share maps, scenes, apps, layers, analytics, and data. You get access to ready-to-use maps, apps, and Esri's secure cloud, where you can add items and publish web layers.

stanford.cartodb.com

An Open Source tool that enables you to use several APIs to build advanced, dynamic geospatial datasets and scalable maps for your own applications.
