ANTH - SOCI - WSDB

Student Questions...

I have a research paper to write for my sociology course.... what database should I use?

  • How have sociologists defined and discussed “institutions”…..  from the first meanings, until today?

  • I need to find important sociological articles about masculinity, but I am not sure if I have the right (best/most important) ones.

REVIEW JOURNALS & BIBLIOGRAPHIES

I am doing a field research class and need 10 articles for my lit review. My topic is:

  • Italian women immigrants in Montreal, the recipes they pass on, and the ingredients they use in their food.

Assignment:

Critical Review and Reflective Analysis.

You will choose ONE current (2008-date) academic article from a reputable, peer-reviewed, Anthropology journal to analyze.

The article should be related to issues discussed in course readings, in class or in topics or themes raised in this course. You will then need to find a current news article related to the theme or issue. You will analyze and summarize these articles, provide a critique based on course material or additional literature, and compare and contrast the content.

Student Question:

(and my translations in EBSCO dbases)

I'm  having some trouble finding a peer reviewed paper to go with my subject. I wanted to talk about the influence of oil companies on media and elections. Or even a bit broader and just the influence of elites/billionaires on media. I wanted to talk about how much of our lives are controlled by a very small amount of people.

I have been using your suggestions from your Librarian page to search but I am coming up empty handed.

Do you have any suggestions as to what I should search to find something along those lines?

Random questions/reminders:

  • At Concordia, WSDB  = The ? Institute

  • If WSDB students mention the "other library" what do they mean?

  • At Concordia, anthropology is mostly limited to  the  c______  kind, and is often quite similar to ________y.
