so what does this have to do with indexing?

Totally hypothetical research question:

I need to find articles on body image from the past three years, but I am only allowed to look in the following journals:

  • American Ethnologist
  • American Anthropologist
  • American Sociological Review American Journal of Sociology
  • Social Forces
  • Cultural Anthropology
  • Social Problems

Which journals are in which databases?

  1. Break into pairs. One partner looks at JSTOR, the other ProQuest.

  2. Where would you look to find which of the journals are included (indexed!) in each?

  3. Are all date ranges included?

American Ethnologist, American Anthropologist, American Sociological Review American Journal of Sociology, Social Forces, Cultural Anthropology, Social Problems

Now, do the search (please).

  1. In addition to JSTOR and ProQuest, let's also include Web of Science in the search.

  2. How can you narrow the search down to specific journals or date ranges?

  3. How many results can you find?
