local, open scholarship

with your colleague, mike

we know what "open access" is

and, we are familiar with it's trappings

but, how do we talk about why it matters?

we usually discuss oa as a problem we have solutions for

we very rarely talk about oa as a solution to real problems faced by our communities

how about an example?

we spend four+ years teaching students to research using proprietary platforms and expensive materials they likely won't have once they graduate

open scholarship is for everyone

and what about in this space we're in right now?

open access shouldn't be thought of as problem.

access should.
