Data Management Plan

  • a document that describes how the data is to be managed during a research project – and after its completion

 

  • identifies problems at an early stage

 

  • identifies costs and resources needed

 

  • monitors data activities throughout the project

 

Contents of a DMP

  • Who is responsible for data management during and after the project
  • What resources are needed
  • How to ensure that data is well-organized and sufficiently documented (metadata)
  • Volume and type(s) of data
  • How to ensure that data is compatible with ethical and legal requirements
  • Where the data is stored and backed up during the project
  • How the data will be archived and made accessible in the long term
