    • wish + past simple, wishing for impossible change in present or future
  • I wish you hadn't spoken to Jane that way.
    • wish + past perfect, wishing to change something you regret which happened or not in the past
  • If only you hadn't forgotten the map.
    • Same as "wish" buy more emphatic.
  • I'd rather you left your dog outside.
    • I would rather DO something, but I would rather you/he/she/it/we/they DID something.

    • past simple after "it's [high/about] time" + subject
