IDEA 1

The Day I Died- Just Jack
Background Information
This song was released by Just Jack in 2009 and was 192nd in the charts that year. The lyrics illustrate slight, fortunate changes to an otherwise uneventful day-by-day life, implying the protagonist was decidedly unlucky. It is about a man appreciating the small details of life before it is too late as shown in the music video which is about a man waking up to the "best day of his life" only to discover at the end that he has already been killed by a taxi and has been reliving that day.
Why We Like This…
I like this song a lot as the lyrics tell a story which we can match to the visuals. I think that this would make a great song to do a music video to as we can use a range of shots and techniques like montages and close ups to show emotion. The song is also quite upbeat yet not too fast. I think in this case a dance element is not required as it is a more serious narrative that can be presented by doing other things like showing how the main character feels.

It has been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America,
Why I Like This…
I like this song as it is very upbeat but also has clear lyrics which are easy to match the visuals too. It has an element of dance in it as well as a narrative. I like this as I can match it to conventions of music videos. This song can go two ways or be a mix of both which i think could be really interesting to make and watch.
IDEA 3
Rockstar- Nickleback

Background Information
This song was released in 2005 but made it to the top charts of 2008. This song has very straight forward lyrics which makes the song catchy and easy for fans to sing along to. It is about the lifestyle of a famous person with a lot of money and the things one would get up to with that money ranging from advantages like getting into clubs and having a credit card without a limit but also disadvantages like staying skinny as celebrities don’t eat to promote the ‘perfect’ body.
The music video is very simple much like a lip syncing task. Over 100 people participated and each scene was different. This made the video have a wide variety which made it flow less. Nickleback weren’t in the video itself either which may suggest that their music comes before their image which makes them seem like an organic band. I really liked this video as it had a range of people off the street and also famous people e.g Kid Rock and Nelly Furtado, i also liked how it didn’t have a specific focus and narrative which made it seem fun which is what they set out to do. Additionally, in 2007, Rockstar was the first most downloaded music video on iTunes.
Why I Like This…
We both like this song as it has a good pace accompanied by clear lyrics that can be shown in the visuals which is a convention of a music video. I think this would make a great music video as we can apply theories like Dyer and Goodwin to it whilst also making it look as professional as possible by using good special effects in the editing process and a range of different shots to show the focus of our music video.
