Physiological

This involves all the basic needs such as food, water, sex, excretion, breathing and sleep.

This is the first need you need to achieve. If you cannot have all the physiological needs then you cannot reach any higher on the hierarchy of needs.

Safety

The next need is safety. This means the safety of

- belonging

- employment

- family

- resources

- mortality

- health

- property

Love/Belonging

Love/Belonging involves feeling as though you belong in your society, so with your friends and your family. If you do not feel as though you belong then you cannot continue going up in the hierarchy of needs.

Self Esteem

This is the part of Maslow's theory that begins to fully focus on yourself. Your confidence and respect for and by other is all based around your self esteem.

Self Actualization

To reach self actualization you need to have achieve each of the other four needs. The meaning of this last need is to be completely content with yourself because you have everything that you need. Seeing as you are so fulfilled with your own life, it becomes a hobby to make other people try and reach their own self actualization.
