Speed Distance & Time

Learning Outcome

5

Improve quantitative problem-solving skills and calculation speed

4

concepts of average speed in different situations.

3

Convert units of speed (e.g., km/h to m/s and vice versa).

2

Speed = Distance/Time

1

Understand the relationship between speed, time & distance

Formula

Speed (S):-      Distance ; ( km/hr)

                                Time

Distance ( D):-   Speed X Time ; (Km)

Time (T):-                Distance          ;   (hr)

                                 Speed

Formula -   Conversion

1 kilometer = 1000 meters and

 1 hour = 3600 seconds.

1 km/h can also be written as 1000/3600

 1 (kilometer/hour) = 1000/3600 (meters/seconds)

we get 5/18, which is used as the conversion factor.

Short Cuts

  • km/hr to m/s = × 5/18

  • m/s to km/hr = × 18/5
