Emotional Inteligence
Emotional intelligence (EI) is the capability to recognize
emotions and to guide thinking and behavior.
Emotional intelligence can be observed in four abilities:
Perceiving emotions,
Understanding emotions,
Using emotions, and
Managing emotions.
Emotional intelligence also reflects abilities to join intelligence,
empathy and emotions, in order:
To enhance understanding of interpersonal dynamics.
To be better decision makers
To be more responsive emotionally to crucial
aspects of one’s life.
Higher emotional intelligence is positively correlated with:
Better family and intimate relationships.
Better social relations and less abusive social
interactions such as bullying.
Perceived as more pleasant, socially skilled and
empathic to be around.
Better academic achievement, job performance
and leadership skills.
Better psychological well-being: higher life satisfaction,
self-esteem and self-actualization.
"It is very important to understand that emotional intelligence is not the opposite of intelligence, it is not the triumph of heart over head - it is the unique intersection of both."
David Caruso
