Pyramid of

Knowledge Integration

On Transforming Knowledge into Wisdom

The 'DIKW Pyramid' refers to conceptual approaches

for representing the relationship between data, information, knowledge, and wisdom.

The pyramid demonstrates how a subject's knowledge and wisdom emerges,

by passing through previous qualitative stages.

Information organises data according to it's context.

Knowledge emerges from processing useful information.

Wisdom can then emerge from integrated knowledge.

Data provides a vast amount of

unrefined facts.

Our usual perception is that

our knowledge grows in stages:

In this process we continuously grow

through an increase in awareness

of Context and depth of Learning.

Prof. Russel Ackoff, a leading systems thinker, highlighted that an additional stage

is actually needed in order to be empowered

to move from knowledge towards wisdom.

Between Knowledge and Wisdom

we need Understanding

that is constantly evolving.

Curiosity

Attention

Reflection

Experience

Understanding can be developed

through life skills such as:

Space for reflection and engagement

in real life experiences.

Curiosity about and attention

to real world events

Our world is calling out for more wisdom to attend to pressing global issues.

Through cultivating Life Skills

we can learn to integrate our vast areas of knowledge

and help collective wisdom to emerge.

"The whole point of being alive

is to evolve."
