  • Debate on media framing of refugees
  • Q&A on the template

Q&A

Questions

  • What kind of frames are present in the media?

  • To what kind of concern these frames speak to?

  • What are the effects of the listed frames?

  • What are the main difference between the debates in the US and in Europe

  • And how these debates play out in the Global South?

Debate

  • Let's discuss media framing
  • We will talk about the role of framing in respect to refugees
  • Look online for 1-2 news items (let's try to aim for diverse sources) and sum up what we found
  • Let's now discuss what we think about framing and its effect

Q&A on the template

  • Form pairs
  • Tell (in two sentences) what is the problem that you are going to address.
  • Tell your peer what kind of data you will collect or you already have collected
  • Reflect together on potential issues that may arise (or you already experienced) during the data collection process

Q&A on the template

  • Did you manage to narrow down your problem statement / research question into one-two sentences? Or maybe you already have conclusions – can you narrow them down to a couple of sentences?
  • What are your thoughts about the data? Will you be able to gather relevant observations? What may go wrong? If you already have the data – did it play out the way you hoped?
  • Have a look at the work of others – there is nothing wrong in following good practices in data collection and reporting!

Thank you and see you on May 8th!
