# Copy, paste, and duplicate slides

[Canonical article](https://slides.com/docs/copying-slides)

Reuse a slide you like without rebuilding it. Copy and paste slides within a deck or into another presentation, duplicate a slide to make a variation, or save frequently used slides as templates.

## Copy and paste a slide

1. Open the slide you want to copy in the editor.
2. Click an empty area of the slide to deselect any content blocks and stop editing text.
3. Press <kbd>⌘ C</kbd> on macOS or <kbd>Ctrl C</kbd> on Windows.
4. Open the destination slide in the same deck, or open another deck in the editor. Make sure no text field is active.
5. Press <kbd>⌘ V</kbd> on macOS or <kbd>Ctrl V</kbd> on Windows to insert the copied slide after it.

If a content block or text is selected when you copy, the shortcut copies that selection instead of the whole slide.

## Duplicate a slide

Open the slide you want to duplicate, click an empty area to deselect its content, and press <kbd>⌘ D</kbd> on macOS or <kbd>Ctrl D</kbd> on Windows. The copy is inserted after the original, ready for you to edit.

## Copy multiple slides in arrange mode

1. Open **Arrange slides** from the editor sidebar or press <kbd>Esc</kbd>.
2. Click each slide you want to copy. Hold <kbd>⇧</kbd> while selecting to include a range of slides.
3. Press <kbd>⌘ C</kbd> on macOS or <kbd>Ctrl C</kbd> on Windows.
4. Choose where to paste. In arrange mode, use **Clear selection**, then select the slide you want to insert after. You can also switch to another deck.
5. Press <kbd>⌘ V</kbd> on macOS or <kbd>Ctrl V</kbd> on Windows.

Slides are copied in presentation order. In arrange mode, pasting inserts them after the last selected slide and selects the new copies. To duplicate the selected slides immediately, press <kbd>⌘ D</kbd> on macOS or <kbd>Ctrl D</kbd> on Windows.

Pasted slides follow the destination's direction: after a top-level slide they are inserted horizontally; after a slide below the top of a vertical stack they are inserted vertically. You can [rearrange the copies](/docs/arranging-slides) afterward. Use <kbd>⌘ Z</kbd> on macOS or <kbd>Ctrl Z</kbd> on Windows to undo the whole paste or duplication.

## Insert slides using My decks

You can also browse another deck without opening it in a separate editor. To copy a slide from one deck to another, select the add slide button and open **My decks** in the slide template picker. From there, you can browse your other decks and insert any slide.

## Slide templates

If you regularly reuse a slide, save it to your template library. Navigate to the slide, select the add slide button to open the template picker, and select **Save current slide**.

When adding a slide to any of your decks, open **My saved slides** in the picker to insert the saved template.
