March for Student Rent Equality at SRJC
Tuesday, May 2 a large group of students gathered on the lawn outside the Bertollini Student Center at Santa Rosa Junior College to protest for rent equality for students. The march prepared to travel from the school's campus, along Mendocino Avenue, to Santa Rosa City Hall.
Santa Rosa police worked with the protestors to regulate traffic and keep the students marching safe.
Students made their way down Mendocino chanting "roll back the rent" among other things. The protesters hope to create a policy of rent control for students to help decrease student homelessness.
Students arrived at City Hall with a chorus of chants like "Who's streets? our streets," and "What's guna pay my rent? All my money spent." Students hoped to get the attention of city officials in order to spur change and force them to see an overlooked issue.
