Applying Single Pilot Resource Management (SRM)
The art and science of managing all resources available to a single pilot to ensure that the successful outcome of the flight.
1. Gather Information
2. Analyze It
3. Make a Decision

Proper briefing before the flight, How and when to fasten the seatbelt?, procedure incase of emergency?.
Electronic instrument displays, GPS, and autopilot reduce pilot workload and increase situational awareness.

The Plan
Is the exchange of ideas, information,
or instructions. The process of communication consist of 3 elements:
-
The source ( Speaker, sender, writer, etc )
-
The Symbols ( words, illustration, etc)
-
Receiver ( Reader, listener, student)
As a pilot a pilot you will be using theses skills while communicating with your instructor, ATC, passenger, weather briefer, and other pilot.
Communication
CRM Communication
- Effective communication is promoted with departure and approach briefings.
-
Before takeoff:
- Proposed departure routing,
- Determine who will be the pilot flying (PF) and who will be the pilot monitoring (PM). The PF generally is in charge of manipulating the controls, while the PM is responsible for communication with ATC and navigation.
- Obstructions or terrain which may be a factor on the climb out.
-
Approach briefing:
- Terrain features
- Minimum altitudes to be used
- Approach chart review if an IAP is necessary.
Workload Management
- Effective workload management ensures essential operations are accomplished by planning, prioritizing, and sequencing tasks to avoid work overload.
To make informed decisions during flight operations, a pilot must also become aware of the resources found inside and outside the flight deck.
