Most popular format. Modern. Can maintain Vector & Raster artwork. 

Maintains FULL resolution.

Standard for PRINT.

EPS = encapsulated PostScript

Used for print workflow and publishing.

EPS files can be reopened and edited as Illustrator files. They can contain both vector and bitmap graphics.

 

If your artwork contains multiple artboards they are preserved when you save to EPS format.

SVG = Scalable Vector Graphics

Used for publishing to the web.

Vector format that produces high-quality, interactive web graphics.

SVG and Compressed SVG (SVGZ). SVGZ can reduce file sizes by 50% to 80%; however, you cannot edit SVGZ files using a text editor.

You cannot save individual artboards as separate SVG files.

PNG = Portable Network Graphics

Used for publishing to the web.

Used for lossless compression and for display of images on the web.

Unlike GIF, PNG supports and preserves background transparency without jagged edges; however, some web browsers do not support PNG images.

PSD = Native Photoshop format

JPG = Joint Photographers Group

Used for exporting of digital imagery

JPG files contain only pixel based images, and are the most common image format used in digital cameras and image capturing devices.

It is the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the World Wide Web.

GIF = Graphics Interchange Format

Used for print workflow and publishing.

Is the file format commonly used to display indexed-color graphics and images in HTML documents. GIF is an LZW-compressed format designed to minimize file size and electronic transfer time. GIF format preserves transparency in indexed-color images; however, it does not support alpha channels.
