Ambivalence Model of Craving: Re-examining the craving-drinking relationship
This study, funded by NIAAA will examine how measuring both the desire to use and not use alcohol at the same time can predict drinking behaviors in people with alcohol use disorders. It will track changes in these desires before, during, and after a brief treatment, and see how they influence treatment initiation and retention.
Influence of Pretreatment Changes on Mechanism of Change Research
The program analyzes multiple treatment datasets to study how changes in drinking behavior before treatment affect effectiveness. Initial findings show that many people reduce their drinking before treatment, challenging the idea that significant changes only happen after starting treatment.
