  • encouraging separation of rubbish before collection
  • encouraging school children to recycle
  • creating new jobs in the recycling station

  • Linhão do Emprego: health clinics, schools, electricity company established

  •  restrictions to tall buildings in inner city area, only granted if mass public transport  opportunities available
  • 5 min routes from periphery to downtown area in trinary road system
  • special tube station designs making the transition between station and bus easier (no big steps on to bus, pay before entering bus)
  • color coded busses to show function
  • cost: 1 million USD per kilometer

  • 60% of residents use busses to get to work
  • residents need to walk max. 400 m to bus station
  • improved environmental quality, especially in favelas
