Final Idea Breakdown

Overview

My music video is going to be performance based, however throughout the video there are going to be clips of a female actor who is dancing, singing, screaming or being illustrative of the lyrics in the song. I am going to use both a male and female actor in my music video, in order to attract it to a wider audience and make both genders feel as if they can relate to it. I shall use colour filters throughout my music video in order to make it more colourful and interesting. I think the colours; red, green and blue will be the most reflective of the genre. However I might experiment with different colours to see what effects it creates. When it comes to editing, I shall overlap some of the footage, so that both of the actors can be seen on the screen at the same time. I don't want there to be a 'deeper meaning' to my music video; I want it to be fun and engaging for the audience so that they don't have to think particularly about what the video means.

actor one - scenes

As I want my music video to be performance based, I am going to use a male actor to lip sync to the song. I am going to use a teenager actor so that he appeals to my target audience. I want the clothing that he wears to be simple and minimalistic because this is both reflective of the indie rock genre and will allow me to use colour filters. There will also be scenes in my music video of this actor playing the guitar. These shots will be close up shots - so that only his hands and the instrument can be seen within the frame. I want the actor to be quite over exaggerate his lip syncing and movements for certain parts of the song. This is because the song is fast paced and some of the lyrics are performed loudly. It will also show the actors passion for the song that he is singing; showing his dedication for his music which will be desirable to my target audience. I will use a range of compositions for this actor, so that I can experiment with layering my footage.

actor two - scenes

The second actor that I plan to use will be a teenage female. I want to use this female actor as if it is the person that the song is about. Therefore I want this actor to use some illustrative movements, to link to that idea. Other shots of this actor will show her head banging/shaking, moving in time to the music, licking her lips and moving her head or body to the fast pace sections in the song. There are parts in the song which feature a tambourine, therefore I would like to have shots of this actor playing one. These shots will features mainly at the beginning of my music video, however may feature else where being overlapped/layered over different footage. I want the actors clothing to be simple and plain so that the clothes don't distract the audience. I want the model to show a lot of skin, so that her skin will be the same colour as the filter used.

lighting & editing

For my video, I want to use lighting so that I can make the footage different colours. I will need to conduct research into how I can do this and do some practice test shots, in order to decide if I should use them. I think that I am going to use a colour disco ball, so that I can have moving colours on both the background and the actors; this will make the video more engaging. However  I will also need to do some test shots to see how this will looks. Due to the fast pace nature of the song and the quick cuts, I think that I want to use some strobe lighting in selected parts of my video so that it is in time with the music.

When it comes to editing my music video, I want to use quick cuts which are in time with the music. I think that I am also going to experiment with layering footage as I think that it will look interesting.
