Representation of social Groups

What is Representation?

Representation is the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way. In teen films different characters are represented in different ways for example, the cheerleader is usually represented in a negative way as she is usually bossy and mean. A film that a cheerleader is represented  in this way is the film 'Bring it on'.

social groups

In our teen film we have one main social group, this is the popular kids group. We can tell that the members are part of a particular group through mise en scene. The characters in the 'popular kids' social group, are dressed in urban clothing wearing things such a: Trainers, jeans, hat etc.
We have reprsented them in a negative light, we done this through the use music using a hip hop track when this group is first introduced.

stereotypes in our teen film

In our teen film we have used some common stereotypical teen film characters. In our film we used a nerd character who was played by  Tarjae, this character is misunderstood by the other characters. We used mise en scene to address her character as she was dressed in 'off key' clothes and wore glasses, which are stereotypical features of nerds.

This type of stereotype character is similarly represented in the film 'Back to the future'. The character 'George McFly' played a similar role as Tarjae as he got bullied for being a nerd and for his appearance.
