Who should tell the data stories?

Stats offices vs. the media
Telling data stories shouldn't get in the way of data publishing
Should statistical offices be present in the public debate?
Should the success of national statistics be measured in citations in the news?
"You're saying it's a falsehood, our Press Secretary gave alternative facts to that."
"This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration. Period."
In the wrong hands, data stories can turn into propaganda
So leave the data stories to the media?
But the media isn't doing its data work
So who should tell the data stories?
The media should
Media should be more data literate
Statistical offices could make journalist's lifes a bit easier
