Media Industry - Horror Movies

Background information about Horror movies

When making a Horror movie it needs to play on the audiences fears and to also make them scared as well for their life, as this helps add suspense and tension. Also this genre creates the fears and nightmares that no one wants to live through, often in a scene an evil force will take over the main characters mind or even an unexpected spooky event will happen. For example, books fall from the shelf or there is a loud deaf defying scream from a ghosts past life.

From the above text I am thinking of having a psychopath or serial killer involved, but because it is a trailer I don't want to show too much of the story line just snippets of it. With a couple of scary shots and close ups of strange goings on.

Horror Media Industries

Information on how each Film company show cases different films and what the budget is etc.

Hammer productions

Founded in 1934, the company is best known for a series of Gothic "Hammer Horror" films made from the mid-1950s until the 1970s. During its most successful years, Hammer dominated the Horror market, enjoying worldwide distribution and considerable financial success. This success was due, in part, to distribution partnerships with a major well known studio, Warner Bros. In May 2007, the company was sold to a consortium headed by Dutch media tycoon John De Mol, who announced plans to spend some $50m (£25m) on new horror films. The new owners also acquired the Hammer group's film library, consisting of 295 movies. Since this rise in movies many famous films like the Women In Black, Let Me In and even a TV programme On The Buses have been made by Hammer Productions. The company has had a lasting impact on popular culture, paid homage to in all manner of releases from Frankenweenie to Jurassic Park and The Shawshank Redemption.

Twisted Pictures

This Production Company is American and independent, which mostly creates films of the Horror Genre. The company was founded in 2004 and they are best known for producing the Saw Film Series. But this production company isn't very large and hasn't gained as much profit like the other production companies that I have talked about.

Conclusion

From looking at the different production companies and what the Media Industry has to offer when it comes to creating a Trailer or making a movie. I have discovered that there needs to be a wide range of camera shot angles and built ups of scares. Also from looking at three different film companies I have found out that most of them like to collaborate with well known higher ranked industries like warner Bros. or Universal Pictures, as this can build up the product in gaining more money because it can be distributed to a wider audience, at the same time the gross amount of money increases for the film and this can be shown from Hammer Productions - they work with Warner Brothers Limited to help get more people to watch the movie. Overall from what I have learnt I need to add suspension in my film and give people nightmares from what they see; this makes a Horror film stand out from other genres. However because I have a small budget I won't be doing anything extravagant like what larger companies would do, for example using special effects.
