Relationships Within the Music Video
Sam Smith- I'm Not The Only One
Iconography
Genre: Pop
This uses a typically used theme, a broken heart love story. It shows the break up of a marriage and the reactions of both involved. It uses an attractive female and an attractive male; applying to both genders of the target audience. It uses shots of the artist and him singing to the song.
Artist Shots
Close up and medium shots of the artist are shown, the mise-en-scene uses a professional and theatrical setting. These shots are used for short periods of time throughout the video. More shots of the actors are shown as opposed to artist shots.
Voyeruism
This is used throughout this video due to the story line. A shot of a male in his car and his wife is looking at him is shown. A shot of the actors having sex is shown; the male looks at the female as she looks upwards. This shows lust and the sexual attraction between them.
Inter-textual References
Inter-textual references to the 1950s; the type of car used within the opening shot. The use of the wedding dress style and the idea of the women staying at home to be a housewife is evident. This is seen throughout the middle of the music video. Some of the lyrics relate to the housewife idea, "I made you breakfast, by the way".
