Conventions of movies

When making movies there is usually a set way of doing things; from the title sequence to the way the movie is opened and how the characters are portrayed. Whether you follow this order or go against it is up to the film maker but it could make a huge difference to the success or failure of your film.

Conventions of movie opening title SEQUENCES

The purpose of the opening title sequence is to introduce the main actors, directors and producers of the film. This can help establish to the viewer  whether the movie is big budget or small budget. A big budget film tends to have a the directors name at the end of the title sequence so that it is easily remembered by the audience.  As it was the conventional order we also decided to put our Directors name last.

The regular order of teen titles:

Conventions of a film opening

In most film opening you would see the introduction of the main characters. This is typical for horror movies like our movie opening. One example of this is Final Destination; they introduce the main characters to audience so that you can establish a relationship with them. In addition a lot of horror movies like to establish a sense of normality so that they can shock their viewers when something scary happens. They tend to do this at the begging of movies to get optimal affect.

Why we decided to stick with the conventions

One reason we chose to stick with the conventions in our teen movie is so that our audience could easily recognise that our movie was the genre horror. We decided that it would be best to have our movie start off as any other normal day then have it transcend into a darker place. Many horror movies do this at the beginning of their films.
