WHAT ASPECTS OF YOUR FILM OPENING APPEALS TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE?
ACTORS
The actors we used would appeal to our target audience because they are teenagers so they will be able to relate to them. Also this made our film more realistic and believable because you wouldn't find a group of adults going camping together in a teen movie. The audience can look up to the actors and see them as a role model or they could even be attracted to one of the actors. Each actor follows a different stereotype which would appeal to all different teenagers.
storyline
Our storyline is very teen related as we show a lot of texting which is very popular amongst teens. Also the whole idea of going away with your friends can also be very exciting because there is no parents controlling them. The audience may want to go away with there friends so they would be interested to see what it is like. Another aspect would be the relationship between the Jock and Princess as they have a thing for each other. Which the audience could find interesting and they would want to find out if anything happens between them. They may even be able to identify with the characters feelings.
genre
The genre we picked was horror because we thought it would be more interesting than what another genre of film would be. We discussed as a group what types of films we liked and we all ended up saying horror, so as we are all teens we gathered a majority of teens would like it. It opened our audience more as more teens would watch it boys and girls. We also do have a bit of romance so this might be stereotypically more popular with girls, however the film is very bloody so boys would enjoy it as well. The genre ties in with a teenage event so we thought this would go down.
location
Typically teenagers like to experiment and being unsafe, so going to the woods would be a perfect opportunity. Jack sat at the back of the bus which indicates his a rebel and teens would be able to relate as when they get on the bus they tend to sit nearer the back of the bus.
Production company
Our production company 'CANDI PRODUCTIONS' produce many teen films, this gave us an advantage because their audience would already be teenagers and if they like Candi production films they would want to watch 'JACK'. This means will would already have an audience when the film is released.
film name
Within my group we came up with varies titles, however i came up with the name 'JACK'. I thought it would intrigue the audience because they would think who is jack? and they would want to watch the film to find out who he is. I was inspired by the film 'CARRIE' as they used the girls name as the title and this did make me want to watch the film. Also i chose the name Jack because it is very typically well known name in England.
sound
The sound we used was quite simple but mysterious and it would create tension for the teens and make them a bit jumpy. Although i don't think our music appealed to teens very much but it created the mood of a horror film.
rough cut feedback
After presenting our rough cut to our teacher and class mates we found out that it wasn't very clear and we didn't look the part. The feedback was very helpful because we then went off and added a lot more props eg suitcase, camping equipment. This helped us appeal to our target audience more as they could identify what character lived up to what stereotype so they could relate to the character. Also if the story wasn't clear then they would get bored and not watch our film and give a bad review.
