How effective is the combination of your main product(video) and ancillary texts(digipak and advertisement)? 

Synergy 

When researching music videos I found that all videos have one aspect that stays the same through most of the scenes and through the digipak and advertisements. This is known as the synergy of the artist. When conducting my research I found out that the point of using synergy is so that all of the products link. For example the music video links with the digipak which also links to posters and other forms of promotion. A good example of the use of synergy comes from Rihanna. Her synergy is her red lips and red hair which is seen through all of her products. Below is images of Rihanna's video, digipak and poster which all include her synergy. 

My pop music video is very colourful and lively. I wanted our video to portray the idea of being young and having freedom in your teenage years. The aspects of my music video that link with my digipak and advertisement are:

  • The plain background which was seen in our video and I also created my digipak by using a plain white background. 

 

 

 

 

  • The black hat which Lauren was seen wearing in one of the last shots of the video. I used a photo of Lauren with the black hat in the inside of my digipak. 

 

  • Synergy is used throughout the video. Our synergy was the gold and silver hand tattoo. It is also seen on the front cover of my digipak and advertisement.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • The pink balloons were used in our video and I decided to use the same type of pink for my digipak background. I used a pink background for the back cover of the outside and the inside of the digipak. 

How successful do you think your main ancillary texts are? 

I think that my ancillary texts are very successful. Our video is a very conventional pop music video. It is very fast paced because there is a shot change every 4 beats. It is also very colourful and energetic. 

 

I also think that my digipak and advertisement are successful because I have  used an photo with our synergy on both. Every artist has a different sort of synergy. For example Rita ora's synergy is her red lips and Emeli sand's synergy is her hair. 

 

Do you think your target audience would be attracted to them?

After completing our video we got a lot of audience feedback and all of it was very positive. Most people said that they thought that our video is very interesting and intriguing to watch because of the fast paced editing and because of the use of smoke bombs. They also said they they recognised our synergy which is the gold and silver tattoo. As a group we were very happy that people recognised our synergy because this was one of the main aspects of the video.
