Colour grading and special effects

Colour grading

The colour grading we have done so far includes the black and white, NOUVELLE NOIR RED colouring for the chorus. This was used to differentiate the chorus from the verse and provides a solid structure to emulate the structure of the song.

We intend to do more colour grading by the deadline. This consists of adding a golden colour to enhance the general autumnal feeling. We also intend to bring out the colour and decrease the exposure, given the sunny natural lighting that hit Sophie's face while filming. We want to give the video the look of being shot with a DSLR camera, to make it more professional

Special effects

So far, we are in the stage of adding special effects and intend to add slow motion for the close up shots of Sophie laughing and blinking to really capture the emotion and genuine feel within the music video, parallel to the song's lyrics. We also intend to do slow motion for the introduction with the walking shots.

We also intend to speed up some of the shots of Sophie walking and tapping on the mic in order to contrast to the slow and normal paced shots. It also plays on the element of timing which is integral to our music video.

Colour grading examples

Fun's music video, "Why Am I The One?", has examples of the golden colour grading and "image sharpening" as Cannon states, that we intend to have in our music video. This enhances the focus of the suitcase in the music video and while we do not have that we want to put a similar focus on Sophie within her busy surroundings.

The weather also influences the colour grading. We want to include this too given that we have the difference of weather within our video

How we colour graded?

We used the colour grading on premiere pro and used the basic correction drop down menu for enhancing and correction and the creative drop down menu for the colouring such as the black and white in the chorus of the song.
