As a designer I am always interested in the material evidence of the unseen...
Many narratives in history of design and technology...
...contribute to idea of black societies as simple and 'organic'.
And yet we know...
- The African iron age started almost 500 years before it did in Europe.
- During the era of colonialism, it was noted that the quality of iron produced by African blacksmiths was higher
- These skills were transmitted and transported across the Atlantic.
