Evaluation - Question 3

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

The time i spent considering how to form a cohesive relationship within my Main task and my Ancillary tasks into a presentable package. I concentrated predominantley on different factors such as the theme, style, concepts and visuals. The purpose of creating these products in my opinion is to attract the attention of the consumer who would typically purchase a regional fashion magazine, look at the billboard and explore the hyperlinked web pages. As well as targeted my ideal consumer i also wanted to attract an audience who would'nt usually take an interest in the common media types available on the market.

MAIN TASK

My front cover leaves huge leverage for imagination and curiosity. This is due to the fact that many of the fashion magazines i researched included and overboard of information on the front cover. When i came to creating my own product i felt this isn't what i wanted to produce. Instead i wished break the typical conventions of a fashion magazine by having minimalistic text on the front cover By doing so it allowed for the consumer to be attracted to read what's inside the magazine. My audience research also proved this to be true. An enigma on the front cover referring to 'Martha-Lee's return' is a direct reference to the double page spread and also the webpage link with the full article, now without seeing that article you wouldn't understand what this is referring to. Consequently this turns into an audience pleasure of solving 'enigmas' personally but also leads the audience to be more attracted to the media piece and want to know more. Throughout the series of products i decided to use the same model in order to show continuity within the product as well as complimenting the branding to show this is a special issue for a limited time. With my mythical consumer in mind i decided to create these products where they all tie in with each other creating an attractive all round package appealing to the correct demographic. As i chose to explore a regional fashion magazine i felt that by using a greyscale image it represents the rawness of models during fashion week and the hyperlinked webpage also covers this through the series of tabs.

Ancillary task 1 - Billboard

For my first Ancillary task i chose to create a Billboard advertisement. I used the same model used within all the other products to create a special issue package. When creating the billboard i decided to stick with the same font and logo of 'Saint Magazine' as i did on the front cover to create a synergy between the different advertising platforms i created and to contribute to the brand equity when it comes to it's marketing. In addition to this instead of using just a greyscale edited image i made the image contrast with different bursts of colour within the models lips and eyes. Although this differed from the rest of the products i felt this made the billboard somewhat individual and eccentric from the others. Throughout the creative process i referred back to the AIDA model to mimmic directly what a real life billboard and hyperlinked web page would do. Initially i created a billboard using a similar image to the other products (LEFT) however i wasn't happy with the outcome and decided to edit another picture to make it more suited. I felt the second billboard (RIGHT) complimented my work more than the first.

Ancillary task 2 -

Hyperlinked web pages

My second ancillary task was to create a Hyperlinked web page. This i found was one of the most difficult due to many aspects. Firstly adapting to dreamweaver and learning how to create a webpage was something i found especially difficult. When i did this i think had to export the html into Wordpress using a host server. The visuals of my home page i found were both typical and contrasting to the typical conventions used in my researched hyperlinked pages from several different fashion based pages such as Vogue and net-a-porter. The common theme was to create a Logo and Tabs followed with lots of different links with articles. Instead of doing this so that i could follow my house style of simplicity well executed i decided to use one main image where i could convey the theme of the 'special issue'. In doing so i increased the brand awareness of my products through creating importance of every piece. The front cover was important to attract the consumer along with the double page spread which gave slightly more detail, then moving to the web link where the full article would be seen. Considering all of the products i felt that the hyperlinked web pages complimented the double page spread. By putting myself into the ideal consumers shoes i felt there is a distinct connection within all of my products with a regional specification with each showing that 'Martha-Lee' is a dominant London celebrity.
