About us

  • We work across all faculties (and are based in ECS)

    • 10 RSEs

    • Including 3 HPC RSEs

  • Work with research and enterprise projects

    • Short / Long term - 150 + Projects

  • Deliver software-engineering training

    • 1800+ staff trained since 2015

    • Free via CHEP

    • Bespoke training for CDTs

Our approach to RSE

  • We discuss and refine your plans for the software

  • Quote for the required RSE effort

    • Identical to including a PDRA

  • Post-award

    • Schedule the work

    • Project manage the software development

    • Timesheet against a costcode for the project

  • We are investigating how to deploy code to the NHS and how to certify code for medical use

Case studies

  • Identifying patients with a suitable heart rhytmn for an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD)
  • Streamlined the evaluation process, reduces workload and improves diagnostic accuracy, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes
    • Developed research code into a well- documented, modular library
    • Added a front-end interface for use in an exploratory trial of the technology in a clinical setting

Deep-ICD

  • Cochlear implants are effective, but referral rates are low. Clinical capacity and low patient and practitioner awareness are barriers to uptake.

  • Developed data-driven patient stratification to increase clinical capacity and improve patient outcomes

  • Developed a data model, tools for extracting and anonymising data from legacy formats and a queryable database for researchers
