Our team deliver the most high-profile drone shows across the world, from Royal occasions to international sporting events, opening ceremonies to iconic brands. SKYMAGIC seek out the most complex and creative shows to stand out in the drone light show industry.

 

You will be joining an award-winning team of creatives, technologists, and storytellers; with over 20 years’ experience within the global entertainment industry and in UAV swarm technology. Our expertise spans live events, animation, robotics, marketing, aeronautical engineering, creative design, productions, logistics, PR, and operations.

 

We wish to appoint a Creative Associate to oversee the development, direction and design of drone shows created by SKYMAGIC. You will work as part of a global studio team of animators, designers, and producers to concept ambitious creative designs for a diverse portfolio of international clients.

 

SKYMAGIC has a strong track record delivering drone shows for leading brands, national and international events, as well as for cultural and artistic projects. Your imagination, art direction and passion for design will continuously advance our drone shows and build on our success to date.

ABOUT SKYMAGIC

WE ARE

As a member of our global creative studio, you will be responsible for the creative development and art direction of drone shows, as well as the detailed show design of individual scenes within a show.

 

We are looking for a creative with a strong skillset in visual design and the confidence to develop blue sky concepts in response to client briefs. You will work with visualisers and animators to realise concepts and translate these ideas into individual drone show scenes.

 

With a keen eye for design and an appetite for bold creative ideas, you will elevate SKYMAGIC drone shows through your imaginative approach to this innovative media.

 

You will be an outstanding communicator, whether that is talking about or presenting your creative ideas and/or articulating your design decisions to a client.

 

Day-to-day, you will be responsible for the show design of a diverse portfolio of drone show clients, working with a team of 2D designers and 3D animators.

 

You do not need to have previous experience with drone light shows. We welcome applications from individuals with wider creative and design experience from all sectors.​

THE ROLE

YOU

This role is open to individuals based anywhere in the United Kingdom (with the option for this to be a fully remote working role day-to-day).

 

SKYMAGIC's UK office is based in Leeds (Yorkshire). We value the opportunity to build relationships and enrich creative conversations face-to-face and will facilitate for the successful candidate to spend time with our office-based team. We agree on a bespoke arrangement with the appointed individual based on your personal circumstances, and this can include providing for travel and accommodation, as required.

 

SKYMAGIC is seeking a passionate individual who wishes to connect with colleagues and can nurture relationships both remotely and in-person. SKYMAGIC’s creative studio is a global team with colleagues around the world, so it will be equally important for you to spend time digitally getting to know your counterparts in different countries and time zones.

 

On occasions, you may be required to travel internationally for creative presentations or client meetings if these cannot be undertaken digitally. However, the core role does not require regular travel.

 

We encourage and support all our studio team to regularly experience drone shows live to develop their creative practice further.

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT & ART DIRECTION

Leading on idea generation and creative design for SKYMAGIC drone shows as allocated during studio resourcing.

Storyboarding and visual narrative development.

Sourcing creative references and producing concept decks.

Writing copy to articulate and annotate creative ideas.

Identifying opportunities for innovation, client success and creative excellence.

As part of a wider creative studio, presenting creative concepts to clients and attending client meetings (as required) to discuss creative development.

SHOW DESIGN

Briefing individual drone scenes to 2D designers and 3D animators.

Creative review of renders and providing iterative design feedback.

As part of an integrated studio, working with internal and external 3D animators to ensure all visualisations, including the final animation for flyable file conversion, are in line with creative expectations and the original design intent.

Detailed final design review of all formations and creative output within a show.

Producing timecode sheets (scene-by-scene).

Line managing the workload and creative output of a Creative Assistant, including reviewing 2D renders.

Acting as an internal creative sign-off across allocated client projects on a day-to-day basis, championing the creative quality of drone shows.

PITCHING & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Facilitating internal ideation sessions for creative pitches.

Producing creative proposal decks, including storyboards and visuals.

Using the SKYMAGIC creative tools to produce assets for the sales team.

Verbally presenting and pitching creative to prospective clients.

BRAND MANAGEMENT

Ensuring consistent visual branding across all external materials produced to promote SKYMAGIC.

Contributing to the evolution and creative expressions of the SKYMAGIC brand.

Producing brand assets, including templates and digital marketing materials.

GENERAL DUTIES

Researching and reviewing drone shows globally to identify and understand design trends and innovation within the sector.

Attending creative sector events to advocate for SKYMAGIC within the industry, including on social media.

Assisting with the schedule and planning of internal and external resources as part of the wider studio team.

Proactively identifying freelance talent and undertaking skills assessments.

On occasion, supporting with creative aspects of onsite drone show delivery. For example, briefing photography and/or content capture teams.

Carrying out all duties in accordance with health and safety legislation, and in accordance with the Company's policies and procedures.

Carrying our other duties reasonably required of the role.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

YOU

CREATIVE DESIGN & ART DIRECTION

Strong visual design skills with a creative flair, able to develop bold and imaginative concepts for drone light shows.

Experience in storyboarding and creating visual narratives that bring client ideas to life.

Ability to create concept decks and gather creative references.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Awareness of a variety of 2D and 3D design software tools. The successful candidate does not have to be proficient in a particular software platform, but should have the base knowledge required to guide and review the work of experienced designers and animators.

An interest in and appetite to learn about drone show technology to ensure animations meet creative and technical standards.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

A track record in managing creative processes and workflow.

COMMUNICATION & TEAMWORK

Excellent communication skills, able to clearly present and explain creative ideas to clients and colleagues.

Willing and open to working collaboratively with an international team in multiple time zones and to mentoring junior team members.
