KATY PERRY
THIS IS HOW WE DO
MIS-EN-SCENE
This music video is very appealing to the eye and displays the artist in a mixture of costumes. It highlights her as being quite a character and acting different people. Perhaps this is to suggest that anyone can be anyone and it doesn’t matter who you are, you can become who you want. The costumes change from her being in a dress to an older fashion outfit to a cartoon type outfit. This is interesting for the audience to watch and grabs their attention.

MIS-EN-SCENE
Bright colours are key in this music video and this is a common convention of pop music videos. This is because the colours make the viewer feel happy when watching the video and makes them drawn to listen to the artist. It also makes the music video more interesting and it attracts more of a younger audience because they enjoy the brightness of the video.

MIS-EN-SCENE
Lip synching is also used which is a convention seen in all good music videos. This is essential for the music video to come together. By having lip sychning it means the music is projected alongside the video so the audience can get an understand of the concept of the video. Product placement is also used with the use of the mobile phone. This will appeal to many audiences because technology is so common at the moment, people will feel as though they have a connection with the video because of the phone. This is effective and creates a more modern touch to the video.

CAMERAWORK
A wide shot is used of the artist sitting on sun chairs. This could be used to show a different location and draw in an audience who enjoy holidays. It also helps to indicate the artists character and how she is trying to highlight how anyone can go wherever they want and do what they want and it is just how they behave.

CAMERAWORK
A close up is used of the artist which is very effective because it means the audience can clearly see the artist and get an understanding of her character and feel a connection with her. It also creates the idea that she is addressing the audience and the words are being directed to them. It also allows you to clearly see how facial expressions and the emotions she is portraying.

CAMERAWORK
A long shot is also used of the artist when she is dancing. This is effective and adds to her performance. The audience can see her character has changed and she is able to dance and the change of costume and location highlights how the narrative has continued.

EDITING
There are various cuts of the artist in different locations. It cuts from her being near an ice cream van, to a colourful room to a sun chair. This is a very studio based music video so most of the shots have been taken in a studio environment meaning a lot is digitally enhanced. Therefore even though there are different location items the location itself is similar just a different colour. This could have been used because they wanted the different colours to reflect a different meaning.

EDITING
A lot of animation has been used in this music video which is quite unconventional. Even though some music videos use a lot of animation, they tend to try and keep it quite realistic. However this music video is very abstract and has animated different animals and objects onto the video such as food and an ice cream ‘twerking’. This is perhaps to give it a younger, more unique feel as well as add that comedy aspect to it. Slow motion has also been used which highlights people moving slowly in the air, perhaps indicating a party type atmosphere.
