Assignment 38: Foley Effects

For this assignment, I need to research different Foley effects for different things in our OTS. for instance, the binds making noise for when he tries to escape and maybe a heartbeat to show  the audience that the victim is panicked or tedious from running away.

I will be Looking for the convenient Foley effects. such as

a cutting sound to show that the victim is being cut with a sharp item. A hammer effect to show that the victim got hit with an item with force.

To find the specific foley sounds for our OTS, we used

' Audio Micro ' to find all of our suggested Foley effects.

We will search the common key terms for  what we are looking for and find the best one to use. I will also explain how we can use our own materials to create Foley effects. Foe example, flour in a balloon and being crunched can replicate the sound of footsteps in snow. I found a useful web site to help me learn how to create certain noises. This is the link to the web page... http://www.epicsound.com/sfx/

Heart Beat:

For this Foley effect, we searched it up on Free-sound so we can get a sense of what Foley effect they have. However, I also looked up tutorials on how to create a heartbeat slowing in rate and It said many different methods on how to do it. They said that you can put te microphone next to your chest and record it or yo can use a cloth and stretch it and retract it to get the thuds of a heartbeat.

However, finding the heartbeat foley effect online will be beneficial because it seems too difficult to record the foley effect to get the result we want.

Punch:

For a punch, we looked up various different audio clips on Free Sound and Most of them are over exaggerated for what we are looking for. But, What I have read online from a tutorial page is that the way you can make a punch noise is by punching your palm with some force or you can punch soft objects that can make a slap or punch noise to replicate it.

Footsteps:

We looked up how to make foot step Foley and what we need to do is take the flooring at the set into consideration and the pace that the person is walking at because if it is out of sync with the movement, then it is going to show that we used Foley effects.

However, on the day of production, we can ask one of the actors to walk around the room so you can get the pace and volume we need for it to be in sync with the actors movements.

Victims binds:

Because the victim is tied to the chair using wires encased in thick rubber, what we can do is use the friction of rubber gained rubber to get the slow squeaking sound to emphasize that the victim is secured tightly.

We also looked online for this sound effect and couldn't find any with this type of sound. however, we looked at chain Foley effects and there was plenty of those so we may change that rubber binds to chains instead.

Victim being cut:

Because the victim is going to be cut with a blunt serrated saw, we wanted to find a Foley effect that uses serrated knives cutting different things like celery, a potato and different things to get the different textured sounds. we decided to choose celery to cut because of all the little strands in celery snapping can replicate  the cutting of muscle tissue and cutting skin open with a serrated knife.
