MUSIC VIDEO INSPIRATION - ARITST HAIR, MAKE-UP, COSTUME AND persona
I have watched many music videos in order to find artists/actors who present similar characters in their videos. I have taken inspiration from the make-up, costume, hair and overall persona of the way in which the artists presents themselves in particular videos. Even though the artists are from different music genres I am still able to analyse their mise en scene and star images in relation to my music video.
Marilyn Manson - The Mephistopheles Of Los Angeles
The make-up worn by Marilyn Manson in his music video mimics the Mephistopheles (a demon featured in German folklore) he plays. The make-up is very heavy and dark consisting of black lipstick and eyeshadow layered over his extremely pale face which may have been emphasised using pale foundation, powder or white face paint. The make-up reminds me of what a vampire would wear due to the wicked and deceased style evoked. His performance throughout the video is very creepy for the audience but is also powerful as he is seen to have followers whom he blesses and baptizes. His intimidating persona is what I want to portray throughout my music video which is highlighted from the lower angle shots and gritty atmosphere. The entire video is black and white making the extreme make-up more dominant and bold. The dark lighting is another aspect I want to take inspiration from as this helps to contour the artist's face by creating dark shadows. Manson wears all black which has connotations of authority, evil and danger which are all characteristics I want my character who will lip-syching to my song to have.

TAYLOR SWIFT - BLANK SPACE
Taylor Swift in her pop music video 'Blank Space' plays an exaggerated version of herself (promoted by the media) in becoming in an obsessed girlfriend destroyed by her broken her relationship. Swift plays her on lyrics 'maybe I'm insane' and acts in a very distressed an almost crazy manner. This is accentuated by her smudged make-up caused by her excessive amount of crying and anger in addition to her actions of ripping up clothes. For my young teenage girl character acted by Millie, I will take inspiration from the mannerism of the character including dramatic and violent behaviour to highlight her frustration under the control of my male dominating character acted by Nick. I like the idea of completely destroying her make-up in order to visually express her emotions and to highlight her detertiotion throughput the music video
