BACKGROUND
Centralized Outputs

Emergency Lighting Control Devices (ELCDs) override lighting control (switches, dimmers, oc sensors, controllers) during an emergency, providing a path of egress that cannot be dimmed or turned off.
What are Emergency Lighting Control Devices?
924 - "ALCR", "Shunt Switch", "Emergency Relay"
1008 - "BCELTS", "Emergency Transfer Switch"
There are 2 Types

Are you using a generator to provide emergency power?
General Considerations
- If yes, you most likely require at least one UL 1008 type device
Is phase control dimming being used?
- If yes, you most likely require a UL 1008 type device
All other scenarios are most likely UL 924 devices

Phase Control With UL 1008

- Inverters and generators allow any architectural lights to be used for emergency purposes.
- In all common lighting plans, ELCDs are required to override a lighting control in emergency mode.
- 924 devices are less expensive, 1008 devices allow phase control dimming
